Cheltenham Festival Preview Evening – Wednesday 4th March 2026

Our Cheltenham Preview evening will be held in the Owners & Trainers Suite at Newbury Racecourse on Wednesday 4th March. The doors will open at 19.00 and the event gets under way at 19.30.

We are pleased to announce the evening will be chaired by race day presenter, hospitality specialist and former jockey, Colin Brown. Colin won 17 races on the great Desert Orchid.

The panel for the evening consists of:-

Jamie Snowden – Jamie’s stable continues to prosper and he finished the 2024/2025 Trainers Championship in 16th place with 62 winners and just over £800k in prize money. This was achieved with an excellent strike rate of 21%. However, at the time of writing he has already trained 63 winners, over £0.7m in prize money and is operating with a strike rate of 27%. He beat his previous best seasonal tally with three months of the campaign still remaining.

Joe Hill – We are extremely grateful to Joe for agreeing to stand in for Warren Greatrex. Joe is Assistant Trainer to Lawney & Alan Hill and as an encyclopedic knowledge of the form book. He has appeared on our National Hunt and Cheltenham preview evenings and his a great friend of the club.

Mark Grant – Mark was a conditional jockey for David Wachman in Ireland before moving to the UK and rode for Jim Old, Andy Turnell, Jo Hughes and Nigel Twiston-Davies. He retired from riding in April 2021 in the same race his brother-in-law (Richard Johnson) also retired. Mark now pre-trains in Lambourn and prepares horse for the breeze-up sales. His most famous horse in this respect was Bradsell.

Liam Headd – Liam formerly worked for the Newbury Weekly News. He is now the Lambourn correspondent for the Racing Post. He will be able to supply us with valuable first hand knowledge of the local racing community.

This event is one of our biggest fund raisers for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Racing Welfare and we would be grateful for your support. A pay bar (credit card only) and raffle (cash & credit card ) will be available on the evening.

The cost of entry is £5 for members and £10 for non-members payable on the door (cash or credit card (contactless only).

When accessing the racecourse, please use the Hambridge Road entrance (Post Code RG14 7PN). There will be plenty of free car parking on the night in the Lodge Hotel, adjacent to the Owners & Trainers Suite.

  • Joe Tizzard Yard Visit

The West Berkshire Racing Club organises various events for its members such as visits to racing stables, studs and race meetings as well as evening social events, such as quizzes and preview evenings, offering the opportunity to meet racing personalities. We also run regular competitions, such as ten to follow an ITV7 league and tipping competitions for major race meetings such as Cheltenham and Royal Ascot. Some members of the Club own horses, others enjoy learning about training horses or what it’s like to be a jockey, but they all share the same enthusiasm for the sport of kings!

The Organisation

The West Berkshire Racing Club is run by a volunteer committee on a non-profit making basis.  We invite feedback from members, both at the AGM and throughout the year, as our aim is to offer events and visits that our members want to attend. The club supports various charities such as Oaksey House, Injured Jockeys Fund and Racing Welfare.
